Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. [7][8] Born and raised in the outskirts of Barcelona She was described as an "atypical pop artist" due to her diverse musical styles. She was attracted by Spanish folk music at the age of 13 years old. She was a musicologist at the Catalonia College of Music and was also a wedding singer. The album combines flamenco with hip-hop and pop, the album spawned "Malamente" (single) as well as "Pienso in tu mira (single). Both singles sold out and received widespread critical acclaim. El Mal Querer was the first to bring Rosalia to the international stage. Rosalia, who explored urbano music through her 2019 albums "Con Altura" and "Yo Ti Tu x Mi", was a global hit. She gave reggaeton an innovative twist on her third album Motomami (2022), departing from the brand new flamenco sound of the album that preceded it. The album's two singles "La Fama", and "Saoko" were able to capture the attention of international fans and were the most praised album by Metacritic. Throughout her career, Rosalia has accumulated ten top singles in her native country, which is the highest number for a local artist. Rosalia has earned 11 Latin Grammy Awards, two Grammy Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards and four MTV Europe Music Awards and three UK Music Video Awards, and two Premio Ruido Awards. Billboard awarded her the Rising Star Award in 2019 for "changing today's mainstream music sound with her flamenco-inspired pop"[18[18]. She was also the first Latino-singing artist to be nominated for the Grammys for Best New Artist.
Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. Born in a family with no artistic heritage She is the youngest daughter of Pilar Tobella, a businesswoman who has a family-owned business which specializes in metalworks. Her father, Jose Manuel Vila, was born in Cudillero, Asturias. They divorced in 2019. [23] She has an older sibling, Pilar "Pili" Vila (born 1989) and works alongside Rosalia as her stylist and creative director. Rosalia began to be interested in performing arts as a child especially after discovering the discography by Camaron de La Isla. In the Taller de Musics, she started her musical training. She took part in a 6-year program in the academy. She attended classes at the Raval School and was later moved to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. [25] She also autonomously performed as an independent artist at weddings and musical bars where she was paid "a just over 80 euros, or as a payment for dinner". Rosalia also met many underground Spanish musicians in this period including La Zowi (Yung Beef), Kaydy Cain and Hinds.
