This mix of reggaeton and pop music not only brought interest back to the genre, but it also brought attention to Latin music in general. Following the time that Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017, famous artists started to work with reggaeton artists. Drake and Bad Bunny worked together for the track MIA MIA (2018) and Madonna teamed up with Maluma for Medellin 2019, which was released in 2019. By 2020 a few reggaeton stars were complaining about the genre's direction toward the mainstream, but a new generation of performers, including Rauw Alejandro, aimed to continue the evolution of reggaeton. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music and other styles was a common method.
